Insomnia

It’s been a long time since this happened. Last night both R and I were almost unable to sleep – we blamed it on the msg from some particularly dodgy chinese food. But tonight I can’t seem to sleep at all – it’s 0512 right now. I went to bed at 0130 after watching too much stargate, and I had a brief nap on the couch this afternoon, so that might have something to do with it but I don’t know. I’m tempted to chalk it up to the stress from work at the moment, but either way it’s driving me nuts. I very much hope it doesn’t continue tomorrow night.
Cabaret
Last night I went to see B in his school “Cabaret” which was actually a lot of fun. His prep group did a great job and he himself had a lot of fun, so it was a successful night. A little more tiring than I’d expected, as was still a bit out of it last night, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It’s a much bigger affair of course than his previous creche concerts, and it was nice to see him up on stage having a ball. Both R and I suspect he’ll end up with some interest in drama or public speaking – which would be cool considering my own history at school. He loves being watched at any rate, and he’s always hamming it up
My little muppet is growing up. It’s odd – he’s been there a year now but it hit me afresh last night that he’s at school now. He’ll be in year 1 next year, and things will likely be altogether different again. It’s exciting stuff.
Passing Strange
Well not really strange, but definitely exciting. This Saturday I will be passed to the second degree of Craft Freemasonry! The second degree is really a mason’s first step into true knowledge of masonic mysteries – at your initiation you are introduced to the world, but it’s not really until the second that you begin to truly learn what it means. I’m very excited about it, and in my case it’s going to be a double degree as we have a candidate from a visiting lodge at the same time, so it should be a big evening. Not to mention that there’s a ladies evening and a big dinner the same time so it should be a fun night.
Stuff and Nonsense
Ok ok so I’m the world’s worst blogger. I’ve been erm, doing other things.
Recent events – fun and games in the hospital. I was hospitalised for suspected appendicitis, after a large bout of vomiting and other fun things, with a lot of pain in my stomach. Turned out in the end to look like Gastro Enteritis, but I have to have some more scans done to confirm that it isn’t a problem with my appendix or gall bladder. It was a nasty night and day spent in hospital, but R came to look after me and made me fell all better
Oh turns out I have Gilbert’s as well. This is something to do with my liver not properly breaking down red blood cells, and it affect my “bilyrubin” (an enzyme) count when I’m sick or overtaxed, which is not apparently something that I need to worry about, just something to know in the future when blood tests show up dodgy. They doctor told me Gilberts is a benign syndrome, and won’t affect me in general, it just can make blood test results a little skewed when I’m really ill. I’ll do some more research on it shortly.
In other news I’ve cut all my hair off! Well, Otis my hairdresser and good friend cut it off anyways. I decided that while I would like to see what it’s like having long hair when I’m not so overweight, in the meantime it’s beginning to get in the way and is too hot for summer and the gym etc. So I had it all cut short, and went for a style I’ve never had before. I’ve gotten one of those scruffy kind of haircuts with stuff sticking out in every direction, and some blond colour in it as well. They ended up dying the rest of my hair a dark chocolate brown so the change is quite striking – it’s taking me a while to get used to it but contrary to my fears I’ve been getting loads and loads of really positive comments about it, so I’m pretty chuffed with it. Now to finish losing the weight and look like a normal human being again…
