The difference filter technique can be adapted to be pretty smooth with some bitmap effects, but I think for proper tracking colours and blobs will be needed. More processor intensive but for the sake of an experiment worth a shot. Not exactly Minority Report responsiveness but nevertheless good kick off to your flex career. Would be interesting to see how you can further optimise the response to handmovements.
