Year of the Shiny Nate
As you may have seen mentioned in an earlier post, 2005 has been officially declared the Year of the Shiny Nate. What does this mean? I’m glad you asked…
I have decided, based primarily on the success I’ve had sticking to a gym routine and the results that I’ve seen – that in 2005 I will continue to go to the gym every day of the working week. Further, based primarily on the involuntary shudders I still get when I think about new years eve – I have decided to forgoe getting smashed in 2005 (alcomoholically or otherwise). I’ll still have the odd drink, but no more drinking to excess.
I am determined to keep this up, and the point is that by the end of the year, I should be nice and shiny inside and out – the weight gone, muscles back, fitness back, diet fixed etc. I want this for myself – I’m tired of being overweight and out of shape, and I want to be able to play football etc with the muppet. I also want to finally get everything sorted out so I can do more for my beautiful lady, and generally get my act together. I’m finding the fitter I get the better I work as well, so it’s all part and parcel of the same thing.
I have made these things new years resolutions – for the first time ever. I’ve always ignored resolutions, and I still think they’re usually daft but this year I’ve decided to make a promise to myself and carry it through. So no more smoking – even occasionally. No more heavy drinking, partying etc. I’m now using the Personal Training Diary I got from Craig Knox [thefitnessshop.com.au] so I can keep track of every workout for the year and better fine tune things. I’ll be getting a heart rate monitor to help hit my target heart rate zones and help me adjust my workouts to be as efficient as possible.
The annoying thing at the moment is that I’ve lost a bunch of weight from my legs, and it makes my body look odd – somehow makes my belly look even bigger than it was, despite the fact that I’ve lost some of it already – and shaving my beard reveals my extra chin in all its glory so the net result is that I look fatter! Gotta keep up the workouts….

Hooray for Shiny Nate![Reply]
As someone who lost about 8 kilos permanently a couple of years ago, I would focus on your diet as much, if not more than your exercising. The two together will make quite a difference. Good luck for 2005.

P.S You still didn’t explain what Shiny Nate was.[Reply]
Yup, I’ve been through the diet thing a bit, and this time rather than going on a specific course I’m just using advice from dieticians etc to properly balance my diet, and the gym to help work off the existing fat – it’s definitely making a big difference.

Incidentally, Nate is a sort of family nickname that R and B have for me – long story that Big Michael can probably explain, but I don’t want to put it up on the blog
So Shiny Nate means me getting all shiny and good.[Reply]
