All official and stuff
Well I’m now officially a permanent employee of Lonely Planet. Oddly enough monday didn’t seem all that different from friday
But it’s great to be starting the role properly – my workload is sizeable, and there’s a great deal to learn. Right now I’m halfway through two days of training in the use of MS Project – I’ve used it several times before but I never knew enough about it to use it correctly, and while it would be good as right at the start of a project, because I couldn’t keep it up to date properly it quickly became no more use than an out of date list of tasks in a spreadsheet.
The trainer is good, and I’ve learned a great deal just in the first day – tomorrow onto more customization and advanced topics. The bets part is I’ll be using the knowledge immediately so I’ll retain it more easily.
Oh, and I got my Shrek doll
R and B “surprised” me with it just as they dropped me off on my first official day, along with a lovely card in which B had drawn balloons for Dad to eat. Apparently they’re banana and chocolate and lime flavoured…. Shrek however, is happily stood beside one of my monitors and has already drawn a bunch of comments hehe. Hooray for toys.

If you find a good trainer be especially nice to them as they are few and far between[Reply]
Ohh, 12 sleeps ’til I start my new job … what toy will be given me that I can put near my ‘puter monitor?? I’m jealous of your Shrek doll already.[Reply]
Hehe oh don’t I know it. This guy was good though, very enthusiastic and actually knew what he was talking about which is a bonus.[Reply]
It’s definitely envy-worthy. What kind of toys do you like?
