Cable Goodness

I finally have cable! Work has set me up with an optus connection, and I’m absolutely loving it. Nice little cable modem – very simple install and I got it working on the linux gateway in under a minute (although that was due mainly to the excellent firewall script I got from atomic magazine). I’ve managed to get them to unblock port 25 for me too so I can continue to use my local mailserver etc. There’s a 12 gig cap on the line, which should probably do me just fine :)

It’s pretty good – downloading is mind buggeringly fast compared to what I’ve been used to – sometimes I’ll download something through firefox and it’s done so quickly I have to check to ensure it wasn’t a failure… Plus it makes things like browsing deviant art a *lot* easier. And all of a sudden, good as it was – apt is now even better :) Now that it downloads things so quickly, I’m using it more and more to get the bits and pieces I want to play with – it’s dead quick so it just makes software installation very simple. Hooray for broadband!
